| Death toll rises to 13 at Gloria Coal Mine |
The
death toll at Gupta-owned Gloria Coal Mine has risen to 13,
authorities have confirmed.
Rescue
operations resumed earlier this week after a group of several illegal
miners were trapped underground after a gas explosion on February 6
while they were stripping cables at the mine, the mine closed down a
few months ago.
It
is believed that more than 20 people are feared to be trapped at the
abandoned mine which was put under business rescue last year.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) says that the deaths at the mine would have been avoided if the mine was not abandoned.
